Hypocras

 
In 1989, the Festival of the Bird King revived the tradition of hypocras. Today, the ‘HYPOCRAS DES PAYS D’OC’ is a recognized local aperitif in the region of Le Puy-en-Velay. Composed of red or white wine, spices and honey, hypocras should be drunk chilled as an aperitif or as a dessert wine.

Our products, which are easy to spot with their little Pantagruel on the label, are on sale at all the main retailers of the region ( cellars and shops selling souvenirs, delicatessen and local products).

Hypocras, which was highly considered in the Middle Ages, was served on great occasions at feasts and people marvelled at the wonderful mixture combining the strength of wine, the sweetness of honey and the delicate flavour of Oriental spices.

Reinvented for your pleasure, ‘Hypocras des Pays d’Oc’ is best when chilled, without ice, as an aperitif or dessert wine. It may also be used for cooking.
